About the activity

Stepping into the lands with fascinating stories about brave lads, gentle ladies, outlaws, winged dragons and dwarf dinosaurs, the volunteers from the Mountain Hiking Festival organized an activity to present the legends of Retezat National Park.

The Retezat Mountains are the land of well-preserved natural beauties and host a variety of species. They have been researched over time for scientific reasons, but have also been the subject of tourism. For this purpose, the Retezat National Park was established, which has a scientific reservation with integral protection.

It is said that some giants lived in Hateg Country (Hunedoara County). According to a legend, here lived an ogre that periodically descended into villages and stole people's cattle. Many boys lost their lives trying to stop him, leaving many families in grief. One day, however, a strong man managed to kidnap the ogre. To make sure he didn't survive, he cut off her head. At that moment, the ogre turned into a large "headless" stone (Retezatul), and his left hand fell through the mountains and turned into water. The bridge of his palm was transformed into Lake Bucura, and his fingers into the lakes of Slave, Lia, Ana, Viorica and Zanoaga.
