The Drumeții Montane Association, a group of people created to help educate society in a green spirit, still stoically holds to its purpose today: to carry out as many actions as possible to protect nature in all its forms. The process of "ageing" is irreversible, but you can stay young by preserving the same goals, as in our case; what matters is not to alter the essentials.
We "adopted" sport from the very beginning, being passionate about hiking – it has become one of our priorities and is never missing from our activities. So, from 20 to 22 July 2012 we are organising the "TRANSALPIN" Mountain Sports Festival, an event within which two competitions are held: the "TRANSALPIN" MARATHON and the "JIULUI" TROPHY; both the winners and the participants in the event will be rewarded with prizes totalling more than 5,000 euros, offered by our sponsors.
Inspired by the Mountain Sports Festival and by the lack of education in a green spirit, we felt that we needed to lend people a helping hand by offering them information about the festival, but also about the existence of the Transalpina route, which risks becoming a rubbish dump; so, on 20 April 2012, we set up an information point about the "Transalpin" Mountain Sports Festival in the centre of the Municipality of Târgu Jiu and, taking advantage of the occasion, the association's members also put on a small photography exhibition with landscapes found along the "Transalpina" route, so that passers-by could see how beautiful the places in this area are.
We also adapted to the demands of the present by organising, from 2 to 4 April, various events within the Școala Altfel (A Different Kind of School) programme, where pupils from several schools tried to discover new opportunities for spending their free time in nature by taking part in various tourist orienteering activities, among which we mention: tug of war, setting up camp, and also clean-up work.
The "Drumeții Montane" Association took part in various sporting and educational activities between 27 April and 2 May, including the "White Wolf Cup", a sports competition with individual participation, where the participants competed in sports orienteering, cross-country running and climbing; the "Youth Fair" organised by the Gorj County Directorate for Sport and Youth, where we were able to promote the "Transalpin" Mountain Sports Festival; and the "Youth Cross-Country Run", which was held in 2 categories, male and female, where the winners of 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th places were awarded books, T-shirts and key rings provided by the sponsors of the "Drumeții Montane" Association.
