He is only 23 years old, but he has roamed almost all the mountains of Romania and a few abroad. He loves mountain trails and is the president of the Drumeții Montane Association from Târgu Jiu. Alexandru Canavoiu is the initiator of several environmental and tourism projects, this being his main activity. The young man's greatest wish is to cover the entire ridge of the Parâng in just one day.
For five years, the mountains have been a second home for Alexandru Canavoiu, who has devoted almost all his free time to hiking and the eco lifestyle. The creator of several tourism projects such as "Muntele Oslea" or "Cupa Meridionalilor", Alexandru Canavoiu founded the Drumeții Montane Association in October 2010, with which he aims to roam all the mountain ridges in the world. "Since 2005 I have been involved in tourism and ecology projects; I take part in the competitions organised by the National Federation of Tourism and Ecology. Besides these actions we also have activities such as photography, we get to know plants, we take theory tests on fauna, flora, climate, first aid and utility mountaineering," confessed Alexandru Canavoiu.
Alexandru's hobby is not without dangers, but it keeps him on maximum alert. So far he has managed to cover routes such as Tismana - Cheile Buții, Creasta Rusu, Parângu Mare, and the Buila, Făgăraș and Șureanu mountains. "When you set out on such a route you must always have appropriate equipment, which is a bit expensive; you must always have a map and a compass with you. I rely on them all the time, but in principle I also have a sense of direction," said Alexandru Canavoiu. Nor have the mountain ridges of the Alps or the mountains of Austria remained untrodden by the members of the Drumeții Montane Association. "At the moment, I am planning to carry out actions through which all pupils in Gorj will be educated to live eco, to take part in camps where they will be trained for this purpose and to give up bars and discos," said the young ecologist.
The young man's greatest dream, however, remains linked to tourism and hiking, and it is to cover the ridge of the Parâng in less than a day. "I want to, and I will certainly do this this year. I want to cover the entire ridge of the Parâng from Rusu to Rânca in 24 hours. It is a dream of mine and a record I want to claim," said Alexandru Canavoiu.
