The Drumeții Montane Association Celebrates2 Years of Existence

The Drumeții Montane Association is putting on its festive clothes as it marks two years of existence, two years in which it has carried out a great many projects and activities at national level. Everyone involved in the activities and projects of the Drumeții Montane Association is a volunteer, and they have shown that the impossible can become possible at any time.
Born to do that SOMETHING we all say needs to be done but never take the next step towards, the Drumeții Montane Association was born on the ridge of the Parâng, in the forests of the Vâlcan and on the banks of the waters of the Retezat.
Legally, the Drumeții Montane Association was established on 19 October 2010, out of the desire to carry out concrete activities with lasting results. The fruits were not long in coming; we list some of the activities it has carried out: tree planting, clean-ups, sporting activities etc. All of them had a special significance and came accompanied by an intense feeling of inner satisfaction, but the most important projects were:
- The "Transalpin" Mountain Sports Festival, whose aim was to promote and popularise sports tourism as an eco-friendly way of spending free time, to raise the level of knowledge of the tourism potential created by the existence of the "Transalpina" route and to educate society in a green spirit – through involvement in environmentally protective activities – and which was attended by over 280 people from all over Romania.
- The creation of an interactive online database comprising young people interested in taking part in volunteering activities, as well as the youth organisations that carry out such activities at county level. Through this website, Gorj NGOs can recruit volunteers for future activities. This project is unique in Romania.
The last official activity the Drumeții Montane Association will carry out this year is the Awards Ceremony of the "Ștafeta Munților" 2012 National Competition, where everyone interested in eco-tourism is expected.
The association's volunteers have set out on a long road, confident that they will succeed in educating those around them in a green spirit and with the desire to carry out as many activities as possible to protect nature in all its forms.
