Education has always been the most powerful weapon people can use to change the world.

2016 was a year full of sporting, ecological and educational events for the 55 tourism clubs in Romania that chose to take part in the 6 events organised within the Ștafeta Munților (the Mountain Relay) National Sports Tourism Championship.

Ștafeta Munților is a specialised competition whose overall ranking is made up exclusively of events that can be objectively measured, and in which competitors have the opportunity to take part in the category corresponding to their age and level of training.

The participants in this year's stages visited spectacular areas in the Măcin Mountains, the Ciucaș Mountains, the Bucegi Mountains, the Retezat Mountains, Piatra Craiului and the Parâng Mountains, and competed in various mountain sports events.

The Drumeții Montane Association promotes "Ștafeta Munților" as a sports tourism competition, organised at national level, whose aim is to create an organisational and competitive framework for developing lasting relationships between youth, tourism, sport and ecology NGOs, with no participation fees, and – at the same time – thanks the other organisations that were involved in organising the stages, as well as the participants, whose numbers grow from year to year.

Organisations involved in 2016: MecanTurist Galați, Clubul de Turism și Protecția Naturii "Cocoșul de Munte" Brașov, Asociația de Turism Gașka București, Asociația de turism montan "Via-Retezat", Jnepenii, Clubul Alpin Temerarii, Asociația Schi-Turism Montan "Pro-Parâng" Petroșani

Because there also has to be an awards ceremony, this year's honorary organiser, together with the organising clubs and those that took part this year, invites you to the AWARDS CEREMONY OF THE "ȘTAFETA MUNȚILOR" NATIONAL SPORTS TOURISM CHAMPIONSHIP, which will take place from 11 to 13 November 2016 at Hotel Andy in the resort of Predeal.

The clubs that accumulated the most points across all 6 categories are: Asociația de Turism Montan Cocoșul de Munte, Hai pe munte Iași, Asociația EcoTuristică Șoimii Dunăreni, Zimbrul Carpatin Pitești, Montan Club Floarea Reginei Valea Jiului.

The Drumeții Montane Association, in collaboration with volunteers Alexandru Cănăvoiu and Petronel Postolache, will present a system dedicated to the orienteering event that will be implemented in 2017 and will help the competition become even more attractive; in future this system will also be available to other sports competitions in Romania. The entire project will be presented at www.stafetamuntilor.ro, ready to be studied and even implemented by other organisers of sports competitions.

The Drumeții Montane Association is currently supported by Sc Manpres Distribution SRL, Yli Eternit Acces Srl, CH-center.com, Elmo-Print, O & R Bacău.

We look forward to seeing you at the Awards Ceremony, to applaud and reward the most deserving among us, but also to compete in events of creativity and good cheer!
