On 8–10 May 2015, the MECANTURIST ASSOCIATION of Galați invites you to join it for the first stage of the sports tourism competition within the Ștafeta Munților National Sports Tourism Championship, to be held in the Măcin Mountains National Park. The stage, organised under the name of the Mecanturist Tourism and Ecology Festival, 1st edition, is of the "outdoor challenge" type and is open to all tourism and ecology clubs and associations in the country, whether or not they are affiliated to the Ștafeta Munților National Sports Tourism Championship.

Măcin Mountains National Park, http://www.parcmacin.ro/acasa, with the camp in the Dealul cu Drum area; GPS coordinates: 45.18148° N 028.26167° E.

Access routes:
From Galați, cross by ferry (last crossing at 22:00) to the village of I.C. Brătianu, continue to the village of Garvăn, where you turn right onto DN 22 D, pass through Jijila, and from the town of Măcin head towards Constanța as far as Popasul Angelo, where you turn left to the village of Greci. At the roundabout go straight on, cross the bridge and turn right onto Carabalu street, past the Măcin Mountains Visitor Centre at the exit from the commune, and continue for another 1 km on a dirt road to the base camp. Total distance 43 km.
From Brăila, cross by ferry (last crossing at 22:00) to the village of Smârdan, continue to the town of Măcin, go straight on towards Constanța – see above. Total distance 29 km.
The ferry fee is 1.5 lei per person and 20 lei per car with driver.

Competition categories:
According to the 2015 Competition Rules – Ștafeta Munților
1. FAMILY – teams of 3 people, at least one adult and compulsorily at least one child aged no more than 13;
2. JUNIORS – teams of 3 people, regardless of sex, aged between 14 and 18 (completed years);
3. ELITE – teams of 3 people, regardless of sex;
4. OPEN – teams of 3 people, regardless of age and sex. Times for this category are calculated as tourist times;
5. VETERANS – teams of 3 people aged over 45, regardless of sex.
6. WOMEN'S – teams of three women, regardless of age.
Compulsory events:
MOUNTAIN RAID – a mountain route of medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 8 hours with an elevation gain of 600 m.
ORIENTEERING – a speed event on a compass bearing; each team will nominate one member to cover the course.
The maximum length will be 2 km and the maximum elevation gain 30 m. It is in the area of sparse woodland between Vârful lui Jalbă and Cavalu, above the Memorial quarry.
Exception: the Family category will take this event on returning to the camp.
TOURISM KNOWLEDGE – The event is organised as a multiple-choice test with a single correct answer; the time allowed is 7 minutes.
In the TOURISM KNOWLEDGE event, each team member will answer five questions.
THE CULTURAL EVENT will be held on Saturday evening, at the campfire.
Optional events:
- climbing event (climbing knots for the Family category, climbing for the other categories);
- mountain cross-country event – individual event;
- GPS orienteering event – individual event;
Event programme:
Friday, 8 May 2015:
- arrival of participants between 15:00 and 21:00;
- the technical briefing will start between 21:30 and 23:00;
Campfire on both evenings of the competition, starting at 21:00
Lights out: the compulsory lights-out time in the camp is 24:00 on Friday.
Saturday, 9 May 2015:
- 08:00 – 18:00 – The "Ștafeta Munților" competition,
- 10:00 – 17:00 – Surprise fun events for those remaining in the camp;
- 19:00 – The mountain lovers' meal – Mecanturist (hot food cooked in a cauldron, offered by the organisers); All participants should also bring with them a minimal set of crockery and cutlery.
- 20:00 – MOUNTAIN SONGS at the campfire with the band CALEnDAR.
- 22:00 – Campfire and cultural event;
Sunday, 10 May 2015:
- 09:00 – 10:00: mountain cross-country event
- 09:00 – 10:00: GPS orienteering event (the two events take place simultaneously)
- 11:30 – 13:00 posting of results and Prize-giving ceremony (we intend to start the prize-giving at 11:30)
- 13:00 official close of the competition, cleaning up the camp, departure of participants

Camp rules:
Each club/group will receive a rubbish bag on arrival at the camp and is required to carry the rubbish to the nearest bin.
The group leader is responsible for making known the rules inside the camp as well as those laid down by Ștafeta Munților.
The entrance fee to the Măcin Mountains National Park is 6 lei; this price also includes participation in the raffle.

COMPULSORY equipment:
Individual: the compulsory individual equipment consists of "mountain footwear with a profiled sole", which also includes trail running "trainers", torch, whistle and rain cape.
Team: water container, first-aid kit, rucksack, source of fire and compass.
The organisers reserve the right to change the competition programme!
