On Sunday, 5 June 2011, the second edition of the Sohodol Cross-Country Race will take place in Cheile Sohodolului, an event organised on the occasion of World Environment Day, which is held every year on 5 June.
The Administration of the ROSCI0129 Nordul Gorjului de Vest Protected Natural Area, in partnership with the Gorj Environmental Protection Agency, the "Drumeții Montane" Association and the Hai-Hui Târgu Jiu Association for Tourism, Sport and Ecology, laid the foundations of this action, inviting almost all the schools in the county to take part in the race. The schools and high schools that have already responded positively to this invitation are: High School No. 2, Mihai Viteazul College Bumbești-Jiu, Bârsești School Group, the Sports High School of Târgu Jiu, Mătăsari Technical College, General Constantin Șandru Industrial School Group Bâlta – Runcu and the Târgu Jiu Centre for Inclusive Education.
Local and county authorities are also expected at this event.
Participants are expected to arrive in Cheile Sohodolului, in the Nari area, by 10:00, when the start of the race will be given. The participant sections that will receive prizes are the following: high school boys, high school girls, middle school boys, middle school girls, and they will run a distance of a few kilometres depending on their age group specified above.
For the smooth running of the race, road traffic on Valea Sohodolului will be stopped for the entire duration of the event, and the race participants will be closely monitored by an ambulance of the Gorj County Hospital.
This year the slogan under which the race will take place is: "Come with us, let's protect nature."
The action aims to promote among young people a healthy lifestyle, as close to nature as possible, in which sport takes centre stage.
