The "Pro-Parâng" Ski and Mountain Tourism Association of Petroșani invites you to the 8th edition of the "Pro-Parâng Trophy", part of the "Ștafeta Munților" (Mountain Relay) & FRTS National Sports Tourism Championship, stage VII.
The competition is aimed at sports, tourism and ecology clubs and associations in the country, whether or not affiliated to the championship, as well as at all lovers of sport and hiking who can form a team and wish to take part.
Dates:
Friday 25 August, 12:00 – Sunday 27 August, 12:00.
Venue:
Vâlcan Mountains – Straja Resort, the area of the Edelweiss Chalet at the base of the Lupului ski slope.
Road access:
The resort can be reached from the town of Lupeni, Hunedoara County, on road DJ 664A, an 8 km asphalt mountain road.
Camping/accommodation:
The tent camp will be set up at the base of the Lupului ski slope, about 100 m from the Edelweiss Chalet. A fee of 10 lei per participant is charged for camping and access to the toilet facilities. Competition categories:
According to the "Ștafeta Munților" Competition Rules.
1. Family – teams of 3 people, at least one adult and compulsorily at least one child aged no more than 13;
2. Juniors – teams of 3 people, regardless of sex, aged between 14 and 20 (completed years);
3. Women's – teams of 3 women, regardless of age;
4. Elite – teams of 3 people, regardless of sex;
5. Seniors – teams of three people aged between 35 and 50, regardless of sex;
6. Veterans – teams of 3 people aged over 50, regardless of sex;
7. Open – teams of 3 people, regardless of age and sex. Times for this category are calculated as tourist times, as this category is for beginners.
Competition events:
Mountain raid – a mountain route of medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 6 hours with an elevation gain of 420 m (Straja Peak, 1,868 m altitude). For the Family category the competition route is of easy to medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 3 hours with an elevation gain of 320 m.
Checkpoints without a judge will have a punch and, if it is not working or is missing, a photograph will be taken of the three team members.
Tourist orienteering – will be held using a map, and all team members take part. The length of the orienteering course does not exceed 2 km, with an elevation gain of 100 m. The orienteering event will take place after the end of the mountain raid event.
Theoretical knowledge – the event is organised as a multiple-choice test with a single correct answer; the time allowed is 7 minutes and competitors will be ranked according to the time achieved. The questionnaire will contain 15 questions and each team member will answer five questions. The Family and Open categories will answer only picture-based questions. All competition categories will take this event before the start of the mountain raid event.
Cultural event – will be held on Saturday evening, at the campfire. In order to score, at least 3 people must go on stage to present a programme on a mountain theme, which must include 3 components: song, poetry and humour.

- 07:30 – 18:00 The competition
- 21:30 – Campfire and cultural event
Sunday 27 August 2023:
- 11:00 – Prize-giving ceremony
- 12:00 – Official close of the competition, cleaning up the camp, departure of participants
Each club/group camping in tents will receive a rubbish bag on arrival at the camp, and the rules to be observed in the camp will be presented.
Compulsory equipment:
Individual : mountain footwear with a profiled sole or trail running trainers, torch, whistle and rain clothing;
Team: hiking rucksack, first-aid kit, compass, source of fire, water bottle;
Equipment will be checked at the start point.
The Mountain Museum is in Petroșani. Located in a generous space in the same building as the Mining Museum, it presents, in several sections, exhibits related to mountain activities: hiking, winter sports, the camera as the hiker's friend, documents, books, magazines, photographs, etc.
If you have an old mountain-related object (sports equipment, camping or photographic gear, documents, a camera, etc.) that you no longer need, you can donate it to our association, which is the custodian of the Mountain Museum in Petroșani.
