Record number of teams taking part in "Trofeul Munților"

"Trofeul Munților" (the Mountains Trophy), the 3rd stage of the Ștafeta Munților (the Mountain Relay) National Sports Tourism Championship, organised by Asociația de Turism "Gașka" București, was a real success.

The event took place from 15 to 17 July 2016 in the Bucegi Mountains, more precisely in the commune of Bran, bringing together more than 500 people from all over the country and recording 118 teams at the start, which was a record for the championship.

The 27 participating clubs formed teams of 3 people who, encouraged by those who chose to stay in the camp, had to cover a fairly difficult route, reaching Lancia Peak, at 2,288 m. Those who took part in the "Family" category had a special route, reaching the "Moara Dracului" Waterfall, one of the most spectacular, wild and beautiful waterfalls in Romania. Here the waters enter the lower cirque of the Gaura Valley, after which they disappear into an underground course, leaving the valley bed dry and covered with boulders.

The mountain raid / hiking event was a real challenge for a great many, but a team from Iași that took part in the professionals' category ("Elite") achieved a total time of 2 hours and 42 minutes, climbing from the village of Poarta on the red cross marking, via Șaua La Polițe > Valea Gaura > Moara Dracului Waterfall > Lancia Peak, and descending on the yellow triangle marking > Valea Ciubotea > to the camp located in the area of the Zănoaga ski slope.

The cultural evening, the event eagerly awaited by everyone, took place on Saturday evening by the campfire, and the bravest participants recited poems, played the guitar and even starred in mountain-themed plays.

The category most sought after by participants continues to be the "Open" category, with 42 teams registered, followed by the "Family" category, with 31 teams registered.

The event was supported by: CCR Logistics System, Green Global Future, Redis Nutriție, Summermag, Cramele Hallewood, Cofetăria Alice, ETC International, the Bucharest Municipality Youth Foundation, Marketing România, Bran Town Hall, Bucegi Natural Park, the Bran Salvamont Mountain Rescue Service, the Bran Mountain Gendarmerie.

We are pleased to inform you that from 29 to 31 July 2016, Asociația de Turism Montan "Via-Retezat", in partnership with the Râu de Mori Commune Hall, will organise the 4th stage of the Ștafeta Munților National Sports Tourism Championship, in Retezat National Park – the Retezat Mountains.

The aim of the events is to create an organisational and competitive framework for developing lasting relationships, based on eco-tourism, sporting and environmentally protective principles, between youth, tourism, sport and ecology NGOs.

Ștafeta Munților is a specialised competition whose overall ranking is made up exclusively of events that can be objectively measured, and in which competitors have the opportunity to take part in the category corresponding to their age and level of training.
