The "Via-Retezat" Mountain Tourism Association, together with the "Floare de Colț" Tourism Association of Brașov, under the aegis of the Romanian Sports Tourism Federation (FRTS) and of Ștafeta Munților (the Mountain Relay), invites you to take part in the "Via-Retezat" Trophy, 3rd edition, on 1–3 July 2022 in Râușor Resort, in the Retezat Mountains.
The competition is a joint stage of the two major sports tourism championships, representing the second stage of Ștafeta Munților and stage 2 of the FRTS. As the competition in this format is a first, we invite all mountain lovers in the country to join us, the organisers, in as large numbers as possible.
This competition will be held in 7 categories: Family, Juniors, Women's, Elite, Seniors, Veterans and Open, and each team will consist of 3 members.
Competition events:
- Mountain raid (regularity) – a mountain route of 8 hours tourist time, which will reach Retezat Peak (2,482 m altitude);
- Theoretical knowledge – multiple-choice questions about the competition area, first aid in case of accidents, climbing, meteorology and the flora/fauna of Romania;
- Orienteering with compass and map;
- Mountain running;
- Climbing;
- Cultural event, with themes specific to mountain tourism: music, poetry, sketch/satire and humour, the club anthem.
Competition categories:
1. FAMILY – teams made up of at least one adult and compulsorily at least one child aged no more than 13;
2. JUNIORS – competitors aged 14–20 (completed years), regardless of sex;
3. ELITE – competitors regardless of age and sex;
4. OPEN – competitors regardless of age and sex. Times for this category are calculated as tourist times;
5. SENIORS – competitors aged 35–50, regardless of sex.
6. VETERANS – competitors aged over 50, regardless of sex
7. WOMEN'S – teams of women, regardless of age.
Compulsory team equipment: hiking rucksack, water bottle, compass, source of fire, first-aid kit (it is recommended that it contain at least 3 items such as: sterile bandage, sterile compresses, Rivanol plasters, elastic bandage, disinfectant, survival blanket).
Compulsory individual equipment: "mountain footwear with a profiled sole", which also includes trail running "trainers", torch, whistle and rain clothing.
The camp will be set up in Râușor Resort. The resort is located at an altitude of 1,250 m, on the northern slope of the Retezat Mountains, with easy access on an asphalt road that winds along the Râușor stream, below the famous Colț Citadel. The tents will be pitched in the area of the small ski slope.

You can also choose where to eat. The Dora and Clif Alpin guesthouses offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. A pizzeria also opened in the resort last year: TOP PIZZA.
Competition programme:
Friday, 1 July 2022:
- arrival of participants – at the Dora Guesthouse in Râușor Resort;
- technical briefing (in the evening, after the arrival of the last club announced);
- 24:00 – lights out in the camp.
Saturday, 2 July 2022:

- 7:00 – Start of the competition events, the order of which will be announced at the briefing;
- 22:00 – Lighting of the campfire and the Cultural Event
Sunday, 3 July 2022:
- 10:00 – Prize-giving ceremony
- 12:00 – Cleaning up the camp and departure of participants for home.
Access to Râușor Resort is possible from the following directions: the Hațeg Depression, Caransebeș and the Jiu Valley.
- Hațeg Depression: can be reached from Simeria on DN 66: Simeria – Hațeg – Râu de Mori – Râușor Valley – Râușor Resort;
- Caransebeș: on DN 68, Caransebeș – Clopotiva – Râu de Mori – Râușor Valley – Râușor Resort;
- Petroșani: DN 66, Sântămăria-Orlea – Unciuc – Râu de Mori – Râușor Valley – Râușor Resort.
From Hațeg there are 3 access routes to Râu de Mori:
- Hațeg – Cârnești – Ostrov – Râu de Mori,
- Hațeg – 2 km before Sarmizegetusa, turn left towards Clopotiva – Brazi – Râu de Mori,
- Hațeg/Petroșani – Sântămăria-Orlea – Unciuc – Râu de Mori.
