Dear mountain-loving friends, we have the great pleasure of inviting you to take part in the "Prietenii Marmotelor" (Friends of the Marmots) Mountain Festival, as stage VI of ȘTAFETA MUNȚILOR (the Mountain Relay) 2015, organised by Marmotele Mahmure.

As every year, we have prepared a competition with lively and demanding events, because, after all, you have to feel that you are at a mountain competition. I think everyone already knows that the route chosen for the mountain raid event will climb from the Transfăgărășan in the Piscul Negru area (elevation 1,200 m), and the top will be Lespezi Peak – 2,517 m and Călțun Peak – 2,510 m, the peaks ranked 5th and 6th among Romania's summits.

This Master-type competition is open to all tourism and ecology clubs and associations in the country, whether or not they are affiliated to the Ștafeta Munților Championship.

Competition date: 24–26 July 2015

IMPORTANT: the children will have an age-appropriate route and will not reach the summit. The other categories, however, will reach Lespezi Peak, 2,517 m (Juniors, Open, Veterans and Women's categories) and Călțun Peak, 2,510 m (Elite category only), so good physical fitness is a necessary condition. The route is as spectacular as it is demanding.

The FASTEST ascent of Lespezi Peak will be awarded separately for each category.

Points awarded: 5,000 points. Penalties: 10 pts / 1 minute and 300 pts / 1 PFA (unmanned checkpoint)

2. ORIENTEERING – a speed event on a compass bearing; each team will nominate one member to cover the course (for the children, the accompanying adult may not take part). The maximum length will be 2 km.

IMPORTANT: Participants will take this event at an altitude of 1,600 metres, in a superb setting next to the Paltinul sheepfold.

Points awarded: 5,000 points. Penalties: 1 pt / 1 second

3. TOURISM KNOWLEDGE – 15 multiple-choice questions about the competition area. All questions are of low difficulty and have ONE SINGLE CORRECT ANSWER. Each team member will answer 5 questions. You will find the questions posted on the website www.stafetamuntilor.ro.

IMPORTANT: the theoretical knowledge event will be held at a checkpoint on the route

Points awarded: 300 points. Penalties: 20 points / 1 wrong answer

4. CLIMBING – SURPRISE EVENT – each team will enter the competition with all of its members, in order to go through several surprise events. The competitor who has to complete the climbing section will be belayed and will receive a safety helmet. Climbing shoes are not required.

The FASTEST completion of the course will be awarded for each category.

The climbing event does not score in the Ștafeta Munților competition, but it does score in this competition.

5. CULTURAL – each club has 15 minutes to present an artistic and humorous moment in which it can perform any song on a mountain theme, a sketch and/or a poem.

Points awarded: 1,000 points. Penalties: ranking in steps of 50 points

6. SURPRISE EVENT – it will remain a surprise until the moment it takes place.

At the technical briefing, the organisers will present each event and the rules in detail. The organisers reserve the right to change the order of the events if this is required for objective reasons.

There is mobile phone signal in the camp area!

IMPORTANT:

- For all compulsory events, the ȘTAFETA MUNȚILOR RULES, which you can find at www.stafetamuntilor.ro, will be strictly observed.
