The Pro-Parâng Petroșani Ski and Mountain Tourism Association invites you to the seventh edition of the "Trofeul Pro-Parâng" (the Pro-Parâng Trophy), Stage VI of the "Ștafeta Munților" (the Mountain Relay) National Sports Tourism Championship.
The competition is aimed at sports, tourism and ecology clubs and associations in the country, whether or not affiliated to the championship, as well as at all lovers of sport and hiking who can form a team and wish to take part.
Period:
Friday, 2 September, 12:00 – Sunday, 4 September, 12:00.
Venue:
The Retezat Massif – Retezatul Mic (the Little Retezat), with the camp organised at Camping Valea Iarului – DN66A.
GPS coordinates: 45.262441 N, 23.870681 E. An area with mobile phone signal problems.
Road access:
- from the direction of Petroșani – DN66 (E79) towards Târgu Jiu as far as the junction towards Lupeni – DN 66A, continue towards Uricani – Câmpu lui Neag – Valea Iarului;
- from the direction of Târgu Jiu – DN 66 – before entering Petroșani, junction towards Lupeni – DN66A, continue towards Uricani – Câmpu lui Neag – Valea Iarului;
Camping/accommodation:
The tent camp and the event will be organised on the private grounds of Camping Valea Iarului, located about 50 km from Petroșani. There are facilities for parking cars near the tents. For camping and access to the toilets, a fee of 10 lei/day is charged for each participant. There is the possibility of accommodation in the specially fitted-out tents of the campsite (Camping Valea Iarului – Booking.com – or directly Adrian Pătruțoiu 0731770337). Places are limited; please book in advance. For those who can travel by car, we recommend Cabana Rostoveanu, 13 km from the camp (Valentin Stan 0721262327).
The event will take place in the Retezat National Park, so a park fee will be charged.
Competition categories:
In accordance with the "Ștafeta Munților" Competition Rules.
1. Family – teams of 3 people, at least one adult and, compulsorily, at least one child aged 13 or under;
2. Juniors – teams of 3 people, regardless of gender, aged between 14 and 20;
3. Women – teams of 3 female persons, regardless of age;
4. Elite – teams of 3 people, regardless of gender;
5. Seniors – teams of three people aged between 35 and 50, regardless of gender;
6. Veterans – teams of 3 people aged over 50, regardless of gender;
7. Open – teams of 3 people, regardless of age and gender. Times for this category are calculated as touring times, this category being for beginners.
Competition events:
Mountain raid – a mountain route of medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 7 hours, with 1,160 m of elevation gain (Piule Peak, 2,081 m altitude). For the Family category the competition route is of medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 4 hours, with 450 m of elevation gain. The unmanned checkpoints will have a punch, and if it does not work or is missing, a photograph will be taken with at least one team member.
Tourist orienteering – will be held by compass bearing, and all team members take part. The length of the orienteering route does not exceed 1 km, with 40 m of elevation gain. The orienteering event will take place after the end of the mountain raid event.
Theory knowledge – the event is organised as a multiple-choice test with a single correct answer; the time allowed is 7 minutes and competitors will be ranked according to the time achieved. The questionnaire will comprise 15 questions and each team member will answer five questions. The Family and Open categories will answer only picture-based questions. All competition categories will take the test before the start of the mountain raid event.
Cultural event – will be held on Saturday evening, at the campfire. To score, at least 3 people must come on stage to present a programme with a mountain theme, which must include 3 components: song, poetry and humour.

- 11:00 – Awards ceremony
- 12:00 – Official close of the competition, cleaning of the camp, departure of the participants
Each club/group will receive a rubbish bag on arrival at the camp, and the rules to be observed in the camp will be presented.
Compulsory equipment:
Individual: mountain footwear with a profiled sole or trail running trainers, torch, whistle and rain clothing;
Collective: touring rucksack, first-aid kit, compass, fire source, water bottle;
Equipment will be checked at the start point.
The Mountain Museum exists in Petroșani. Located in a generous space in the same building as the Mining Museum, it presents, in several sections, exhibits related to mountain activity: hiking, winter sports, the camera as the hiker's friend, documents, books, magazines, photographs, etc.
If you have an old mountain-related object (sports equipment, camping, photo, documents, a camera, etc.) and you no longer need it, you can donate it to our association, which is the custodian of the Mountain Museum in Petroșani.
