The Pro-Parâng Petroșani Mountain Ski and Tourism Association invites you to the third edition of the "Trofeul Pro-Parâng" (the Pro-Parâng Trophy), stage VII of the National Sports Tourism Championship "Ștafeta Munților" (the Mountain Relay).

The competition is open to sports, tourism and ecology clubs and associations from across the country, whether or not affiliated to the championship, as well as to all lovers of sport and hiking who can form a team and wish to take part.

Dates:

Friday 1 September, 14:00 – Sunday 3 September, 12:00.

Venue:

The Parâng Massif, with the camp organised in the area of Cabana Groapa Seacă (the Groapa Seacă Chalet) - DN7A. GPS coordinates: 45º24´25.3"N, 23º33´37.5"E. An area with no mobile phone signal.

Road access:

from Petroșani - roundabout towards Maleia Street - Voineasa - Râmnicu Vâlcea DN7A - 18 km, paved road under repair;

from Râmnicu Vâlcea - Voineasa - Obârșia Lotrului DN7A - towards Petroșani, road under major repair on the Obârșia Lotrului – Cabana Groapa Seacă section.

from Târgu Jiu – towards Rânca (Transalpina) - junction towards Petroșani on DN7A;

Camping/accommodation:

The tent camp will be organised near the "Groapa Seacă" chalet and a fee of 10 lei/person is charged, which gives access to sanitary facilities with toilet and shower. Those who want accommodation at the chalet can book by telephone on 0766337077 (Loredana Rîbu - chalet manager). 4 km downstream on DN7A, in the Jieț Gorge (Cheile Jiețului), is Cabana Mija, where bookings can be made on tel: 0767779185;

Competition categories:

According to the "Ștafeta Munților" Competition Rules - 2017

1. Family - teams of 3 people, with at least one adult and compulsorily at least one child aged 13 or under;

2. Juniors – teams of 3 people, of either sex, aged between 14 and 20 (completed years);

3. Women – teams of 3 women, regardless of age;

4. Elite – teams of 3 people, of either sex;

5. Seniors – teams of three people aged over 35, of either sex;

6. Veterans – teams of 3 people aged over 50, of either sex;

7. Open – teams of 3 people, regardless of age and sex. Times for this category are calculated as touring times. This category does not score in the overall Ștafeta Munților ranking;

Competition events:

Mountain raid – a mountain route of medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 7–8 hours, with an elevation difference of 1,100 m. For the Family category the competition route is of medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 4 hours, with an elevation difference of 624 m. The checkpoints without a marshal will have a punch, as well as a 3-letter code that must be written on the competition card in case there are problems with punching. We ask that each team carry a writing instrument.

Tourist orienteering – will be run on compass bearings with a supporting map, and all team members take part. The length of the orienteering course does not exceed 2.5 km, with an elevation difference of 200 m. The orienteering event will take place before the mountain raid event.

Theory knowledge – the event is organised as a multiple-choice test with a single correct answer; the time allowed is 7 minutes and competitors will be separated according to the time achieved. The questionnaire will consist of 15 questions and each team member will answer five questions. The Family and Open categories will answer only picture-based questions. All competition categories will take the test before the start of the orienteering event.

Cultural event – will take place on Saturday evening, at the campfire. To score, at least 3 people must go on stage and present a mountain-themed programme that must include 3 components: song, poetry and humour.

Mountain cross-country running event – participation is individual in 4 categories: juniors/seniors, women/men. The route to be covered is part of the mountain raid route. A participation fee of 30 lei is charged, from which the prize fund is made up.

Friday 1 September 2017

14:00 - 22:00 arrival of participants;

22:00 - close of registration, technical briefing;

23:30 - posting of the starting order, lights out in the camp;

Saturday 2 September 2017

- 07:30 – 18:00 the competition;

- 21:30 – campfire and cultural event;

Sunday 3 September 2017

- 11:00 – prize-giving ceremony;

- 12:00 – official close of the competition, cleaning up the camp, departure of participants;

Each club/group will receive a rubbish bag on arrival at the camp, and the rules to be observed in the camp will be presented.

Compulsory equipment:

Individual: torch, whistle, rain cape, hiking boots or footwear with a grippy sole;

Team: first-aid kit, compass, fire source, water bottle;
