The "Transalpin" Mountain Sports Festival, organised by the "Drumeții Montane" Association and held from 20 to 22 July 2012, was a real success, given that more than 250 people were able to enter the Transalpin Marathon or the Jiu Trophy (Trofeul Jiului), where the competitors took part in events such as: climbing (knots), mountain raid, theoretical test, orienteering and folk evening, and of course the supporters, quite numerous themselves, were ever-present at this festival. Once in the camp, the competitors could also take part in a game of the mind, namely the mountain chess event, which lasted more than 10 hours.
Those who reached the camp were enchanted by the place we had selected for camping; after the long road, dotted with fir trees each more stately than the last, once they arrived in the heart of the forest where the information point and thus the camp were located, both participants and supporters truly felt nature and the clean mountain air.
The start was given on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, and depending on the event the competitors had to cover between 31 km and 18 km. The Transalpin Marathon had 2 categories: men and women, and the Jiu Trophy 3 categories. The seniors category, where the team had to be well prepared, as it had no age limit; the juniors category, where the age limit was between 14 and 20 years; and the open category, which was addressed to families or people who wanted just a simple walk in the mountains, the latter proving to be the most popular with the participants.
The route each team had to cover was the following: Cabana Silvică (Start) - Cabana Aviatorilor (Control 1) - Lacul Câlcescu (Control 2) - Vf. Setea Mare (Control 3) - Cabana Aviatorilor - Cabana Silvică (FINISH), but the participants had a surprise on the route: a clearing full of delicious bilberries prevented many teams from keeping within the time allowed for completing the route, so most of the teams were penalised.
The awards ceremony for the Transalpin Marathon took place on Saturday evening, where many of the participants did not stay, as there was no more accommodation to be found in the area, so the Drumeții Montane Association had to send a great many prizes by express courier/post.
After the awards ceremony for the marathon event, the cultural evening was not long in coming; the teams registered for this event each presented in turn a poem, a play and a few songs.
On Sunday morning the participants in the Jiu Trophy event learned the results and received prizes according to category and the position obtained in the ranking.
According to the registration lists, more than 120 people came for the trophy, 80 for the marathon and more than 50 were supporters.
We thank the Club Duster Association for their support in organising the festival.
