The Voluntmont Debate Caravan in Târgu Jiu

On Friday, 25 November 2011, the Voluntmont Debate Caravan took place in the conference room of Târgu Jiu Town Hall, organised by the Drumeții Montane Association in partnership with the Nehoiu Association for Community Development. The caravan, held at the end of last week, had two themes:
a) How young people from mountain areas can develop a business in tourism or agritourism
b) How NGOs can help volunteers so that the certificates/diplomas they issue on completion of a project the volunteers have worked on are recognised by employers.
In Romania, volunteering is not as appreciated by employers as it is in other countries, and through the actions we carry out at national level we want to change this.
Many of us have worked as volunteers, for long periods of time, in various projects, within which we have held positions and had responsibilities, which has led to the acquisition of professional qualities that we can put into practice in a workplace. Although we have accumulated extensive experience, useful to an employer, the lack of a certificate of attestation signed by an accredited body prevents us from being taken seriously, and this is a state of affairs we want to change.
As a volunteer you sacrifice a large part of your free time to achieve something, to reach an objective, to fulfil a goal. It is extremely hard to be a volunteer in the long term; many give up after two or three months, because volunteering on projects/activities/actions is exactly like a job, except that you are not paid.
The caravan on 25 November 2011 was attended by representatives of Târgu Jiu Municipal Town Hall, the Gorj County Local Council, the Gorj County Directorate for Sport and Youth, the Gorj County Employment Agency, the Students' League of Constantin Brâncuși University, the Administration of the Natura 2000 site – Nordul Gorjului de Vest, Ecaterina Teodoroiu National College, Energy School Group No. 1, and the "Mihai Viteazul" College of Bumbești-Jiu.
We thank the representatives of Târgu Jiu Municipal Town Hall, who welcomed us with open arms, as well as the partners who support us in everything we do; they can be seen on the website www.drumetiimontane.ro under the Partners section. The Drumeții Montane Association is made up of young people passionate about mountains, nature, eco-tourism and environmental protection, and if you would like to join our team you can contact us via the form on the website www.drumetiimontane.ro, where you can also study in more detail the activities we have carried out to date. The Drumeții Montane Association is currently supported by the following businesses: Ch-Center Hosting, Vector di Sign, Pensiunea Casa Bobo, Euro Park Brașov.
