Trofeul Munților (the Mountains Trophy) – Stage 4 of the National Sports Tourism Championship – Ștafeta Munților & FRTS 2025
You asked, we answered, we rallied round and organised a new trophy!
The 11th edition of the Trofeul Munților will take place in the Piatra Craiului massif, in the Plaiul Foii area.
The event is dedicated both to members of the clubs affiliated to the Sports Tourism Championship – Ștafeta Munților & FRTS, and to other mountain enthusiasts, who can register in teams and take part alongside the clubs, enjoying the same activities.
Camp location:

Camping fee: 25 lei / person / night
Parking is available in the vicinity of the camp.
To help us organise things well, it would help if you could confirm the number of participants and tents in advance.
Access:
By car: from Zărnești, along Valea Bârsei – asphalt road (~13 km)
By train: to Zărnești (Regio trains from Brașov), then by taxi/local transport

RULES
1. Mountain raid event:
- Level of difficulty: medium; we recommend that those taking part for the first time in a Ștafeta Munților competition, or who have no experience of hiking trails, consult the members of the organising team when choosing their competition category.
- Duration: 7 – 8 hours
- Physical fitness: very good
- The route will be marked and secured by the organisers
- Scoring: according to the Ștafeta Munților rules.
- Mandatory equipment: compass, first-aid kit, water bottle, rucksack, means of lighting a fire. This event cannot be entered without boots or mountain footwear with a profiled sole, which also includes trail running "trainers"
- Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition
2. Sport orienteering event:
- Speed event on the map; the whole team will cover the orienteering course of approximately 2 km
- Scoring: according to the Ștafeta Munților rules
- Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition
3. Theory tests:
- They will be taken by the members of the teams entered in the competition before setting off on the raid route. The test will consist of 15 multiple-choice questions about the competition area, with a single correct answer. Each team member will answer 5 questions.
- Scoring: according to the Ștafeta Munților rules
- Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition.

4. Climbing event:
- Each team will nominate one member who will climb a climbing route; the competitor will be belayed and will also be given a protective helmet. We do not provide climbing shoes.
- Level of difficulty: medium.
- Score based on the height climbed and the time achieved.
- Approximate length of the route: 10 m
- Maximum time to complete the route: 5 minutes
- Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition.
5. Cultural and artistic event:
- Theme: sport, tourism, nature, ecology;
- Duration: approx. 25 minutes;
- Scoring: according to the Ștafeta Munților rules
- Content: music, poetry, humour
- Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition;
Competition categories:
1. FAMILY – teams of 3 people, at least one adult and, compulsorily, at least one child aged no more than 13
2. JUNIORS – teams of 3 people, regardless of sex, aged between 14 and 20 (completed years)
3. ELITE – teams of 3 people, regardless of sex
4. SENIORS – teams of 3 people aged between 35 and 50, regardless of sex
5. VETERANS – teams of 3 people aged over 50, regardless of sex
6. WOMEN – teams of three girls, regardless of age
7. OPEN – teams of 3 people, regardless of age and sex.

Friday 25 July:
- 12:00 – 22:00 Arrival of the participants
- 22:30 Technical briefing
- 24:00 Lights out
Saturday 26 July:
- 07:30 – 17:00 Technical and theory events
- 22:00 Cultural and artistic event and campfire
Sunday 27 July:
- 10:30 – Prize-Giving Ceremony
- 12:00 – Cleaning up the camp and departure of the participants
* The organisers reserve the right to make changes to the schedule of the competition events depending on the weather.
Camp rules:
- Competitors will be accommodated in tents, under the guidance of the organisers.
- There will be a single fire pit; setting up any additional fire pits is forbidden.
- Clubs are required to carry their rubbish to the special collection points near the camp.
- Cars may be parked under the guidance of the organisers; their access to the tent camp is forbidden.
