This year, "Trofeul Munților" (the Mountains Trophy), organised by the "Gaska" București Tourism Association and representing stage IV of the "Ștafeta Munților" (the Mountain Relay) National Sports Tourism Championship, brought over 100 teams to the start line.

The event took place in the Bucegi Mountains, in the Padina area, bringing together over 500 people from across the country.

On the occasion of this event the organisers promoted the beauty of the Padina area and sport among the participants.

The 21 clubs present at the start formed teams of 3 people who - encouraged by those who chose to stay in the camp - took part in the many events on offer, the most eagerly awaited being the hike, during which families, together with their children, climbed on foot from Padina to Babele, setting aside for a day the comfort of going up by cable car. The most experienced climbed as far as Colții Obârșiei, at an altitude of 2,480 m.

The other events were: orienteering - in which they learned how to read a map and a compass; general knowledge tests - multiple-choice questions with a single answer; climbing.

The cultural evening, the most eagerly awaited event, took place on Saturday evening at the campfire, and the most talented participants recited poems, played the guitar and even starred in mountain-themed plays.

The category most sought after by participants remains the "Open" category, with 22 teams registered, followed by the "Family" category, with 26 teams registered.

If you want to take part in hiking, orienteering, general knowledge tests and a cultural evening, you are welcome at this year's stage V - TROFEUL VIA-RETEZAT 2017 – on 4–6 August 2017 – Stâna de Râu Valley – Stâna de Râu Refuge (1,630 m altitude), Retezat National Park, in which competitors will reach one of the 14 peaks over 2,500 m in the Romanian Carpathians: Păpușa Peak – 2,508 m (the second highest peak in the Retezat Massif).

These events aim to create the organisational and competitive framework for developing lasting relationships, based on eco-tourism, sporting and environmental protection principles, between youth, tourism, sport and ecology NGOs and beyond.

"Ștafeta Munților" is a specialised competition whose overall ranking is made up exclusively of events that can be objectively quantified and in which competitors have the opportunity to take part in the category appropriate to their age and level of training.
