10 years of Trofeul Munților

Because it all began in 2014 in the Bucegi Mountains, we thought we would return to where we started and invite you to the 10th edition of Trofeul Munților (the Mountains' Trophy) in the same massif.

This year, Stage IV of the National Sports Tourism Championship – Ștafeta Munților & FRTS, 2024 edition, will take place at Cabana Diham.

Trofeul Munților is aimed both at members of the clubs taking part in the Sports Tourism Championship – Ștafeta Munților & FRTS and at other people who will be able to organise themselves into teams, taking part alongside the clubs and enjoying the same activities.

Camp location:

The tent camp will be set up in the vicinity of Cabana Diham, at an altitude of 1,320 m.

There is the possibility of accommodation in the chalet, in rooms of 4–9 beds, with bathroom, 50 lei/person/night. For bookings, you can contact Raluca – 0725.822.263 (WhatsApp).

Access is possible as follows:

• From Bușteni, on foot along the Cabana Gura Diham – Cabana Diham trail (blue triangle, ~2 hours)

• From DN73A Predeal – Râșnov, then DJ 101 Râșnov – Valea Glăjăriei and on along the forest road to near the chalet.

• From DN73A Predeal – Râșnov, then the forest road towards Cabana Forban, which reaches the vicinity of Cabana Diham – recommended mostly for those with high-clearance cars; from this same road, you can leave the car at the start of the hiking trail (red dot, ~1.5–2 hours)

Please note that it will not be possible to reach the camp by car (not even for unloading), and parking spaces nearby will be limited.

RULES

1. Mountain raid event:

  • Difficulty level: high; we recommend those taking part for the first time in a Ștafeta Munților competition, or who have no experience of hiking trails, to consult the members of the organising team when choosing their competition category.
  • Duration: 7–8 hours
  • Physical fitness: very good
  • The route will be marked and secured by the organisers
  • Points: in accordance with the Ștafeta Munților rules.
  • Compulsory equipment: compass, first-aid kit, water bottle, rucksack, fire source. Entry to this event is not possible without boots or mountain footwear with a profiled sole, which also includes trail running "trainers"
  • Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition

2. Orienteering event:

  • A speed event using a map; the whole team will cover the orienteering course, of approximately 2 km
  • Points: in accordance with the Ștafeta Munților rules
  • Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition

3. Theory events:

  • To be taken before setting off on the raid route by the members of the teams entered in the competition. The test will consist of 15 multiple-choice questions about the competition area, with a single correct answer. Each team member will answer 5 questions.
  • Points: in accordance with the Ștafeta Munților rules
  • Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition.

4. Climbing event:

  • Each team will designate one member who will complete a climbing route; the competitor will be belayed and will also receive a protective helmet. We do not provide climbing shoes.
  • Difficulty level: medium.
  • Points based on the height climbed and the time achieved.
  • Approximate length of the route: 10 m
  • Maximum time to complete the route: 5 minutes
  • Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition.

5. Cultural and artistic event:

  • Theme: sport, tourism, nature, ecology;
  • Duration: approx. 25 minutes;
  • Points: in accordance with the Ștafeta Munților rules
  • Content: music, poetry, humour
  • Counts towards the overall ranking of the competition;

Competition categories:

  1. FAMILY – teams of 3 people, at least one adult and, compulsorily, at least one child aged 13 or under
  2. JUNIORS – teams of 3 people, regardless of gender, aged between 14 and 20
  3. ELITE – teams of 3 people, regardless of gender
  4. SENIORS – teams of 3 people aged between 35 and 50, regardless of gender
  5. VETERANS – teams of 3 people aged over 50, regardless of gender
  6. WOMEN – teams of three girls, regardless of age
  7. OPEN – teams of 3 people, regardless of age and gender.

Friday, 2 August:

- 12:00 – 22:00 Reception of participants

- 22:30 Technical briefing

- 24:00 Lights out

Saturday, 3 August:

- 07:30 – 17:00 Technical and theory events

- 22:00 Cultural and artistic event and campfire

Sunday, 4 August:

- 10:30 – Awards ceremony

- 12:00 – Cleaning of the camp and departure of the participants

* The organisers reserve the right to make changes to the schedule of the competition events depending on the weather.

Camp rules:

  • Competitors will be accommodated in tents, under the guidance of the organisers.
  • There will be a single fire pit; setting up additional fire pits is forbidden.
  • Clubs are obliged to carry their rubbish to the special collection points near the camp.
  • Cars may be parked under the guidance of the organisers; their access to the tent camp is forbidden.
