The "Pro-Parâng" Petroșani Ski and Mountain Tourism Association invites you to the 9th edition of the "Trofeul Pro-Parâng", part of the "Ștafeta Munților" (the Mountain Relay) National Sports Tourism Championship & the Romanian Sports Tourism Federation (FRTS), stage 6

The competition is aimed at sports, tourism and ecology clubs and associations from across the country, whether or not affiliated to the championship, as well as at all lovers of sport and hiking who can form a team and wish to take part.

The "Trofeul Pro-Parâng" is included in the Grand Prix Romania Festival, which takes place from 28.08 to 30.09.2024 in Valea Cernei and which also includes other events such as: orienteering, running, archery, airsoft rifle shooting, volleyball, football, a climbing event and a skills event.

Minors may take part in the activities and competitions of the Grand Prix only with the consent of their parents or legal guardian. Friday 30 August, 12:00 – Sunday 1 September, 12:00.

Venue:

Munții Mehedinți – Valea Cernei, the area around Pensiunea Dumbrava in Valea Cernei.

Access by car:

Valea Cernei can be reached:

- From Târgu Jiu – Baia de Aramă and then along Valea Cernei to Pensiunea Dumbrava on the DN 67D;

- From Drobeta-Turnu Severin – Orșova – Băile Herculane on the DN 6 (E 70) as far as the resort of Băile Herculane, and then along Valea Cernei to Pensiunea Dumbrava on the DN 67D.

- From Timișoara – Caransebeș on the DN 6 (E 70) to Băile Herculane, and then along Valea Cernei to Pensiunea Dumbrava on the DN 67D.

Camping/accommodation:

The tent camp will be set up in Valea Cernei in two areas on either side of the Cerna river, near Pensiunea Dumbrava. For camping and access to the toilet facilities a fee of 15 lei / tent / night is charged, plus 20 lei / night for parking a car in the camp. For accommodation and meals at chalets and guesthouses, bookings can be made in advance at the following locations: Pensiunea Dumbrava (0748850116), Pensiunea Dimitrios**** (0746145201), Pensiunea Munteanu (0721270600), and at the guesthouses or hotels in the resort of Herculane, 15 km from the camping area. Given that we are in the Domogled – Valea Cernei National Park, a park entrance fee of 10 lei / 7 days will be charged for people aged over 14,

Competition categories:

According to the "Ștafeta Munților" Competition Rules.

1. Family - teams of 3 people take part, at least one adult and, compulsorily, at least one child aged no more than 13;

2. Juniors – teams of 3 people take part, regardless of sex, aged between 14 and 20 (completed years);

3. Women – teams of 3 female members take part, regardless of age;

4. Elite – teams of 3 people take part, regardless of sex;

5. Seniors – teams of three people aged between 35 and 50 take part, regardless of sex;

6. Veterans – teams of 3 people aged over 50 take part, regardless of sex;

7. Open – teams of 3 people take part, regardless of age and sex. The times for this category are calculated as touring times, this category being for beginners.

Competition events:

Mountain raid – a mountain route of medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 8 hours, with an elevation gain of 990 m (Pietrele Albe peak, 1335 m altitude). For the Family category the competition route is of easy-to-medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 3 hours, with an elevation gain of 450 m. At the checkpoints without a marshal, a photograph will be taken with the three team members;

Orienteering – will be carried out on the map, and all team members take part. The length of the orienteering course does not exceed 2 km, with an elevation gain of 100 m. The orienteering event will take place after the end of the mountain raid event;

Theory test – the event is organised as a multiple-choice test with a single correct answer; the time allowed is 7 minutes and competitors will be ranked according to the time achieved. The questionnaire will contain 15 questions and each team member will answer five questions. The Family and Open categories will only answer picture-based questions. All competition categories will sit the test before the start of the mountain raid event;

Climbing event – will take place by category, on certified routes, at the entrance to Cheile Țâsnei. Level of difficulty - easy;

Cultural event – will take place on Saturday evening, at the campfire. To score, at least 3 people must go on stage to present a mountain-themed programme that must include 3 components: a song, a poem and humour.

Friday 30 August 2024:

- 12:00 - 22:00 - Arrival of the participants

- 22:00 - Close of registration, technical briefing

- 23:30 - Lights out

Saturday 31 August 2024:

- 07:00 - 18:00 The competition

- 21:30 - Campfire and cultural event

Sunday 1 September 2024:

- 11:00 - Prize-giving ceremony

- 12:00 - Official close of the competition, cleaning up the camp, departure of the participants

On arrival at the camp, each club/group camping in tents will receive a rubbish bag, and the rules to be observed in the camp will be presented.

Mandatory equipment:

Individual: mountain footwear with a profiled sole or trail running shoes, torch, whistle and rain clothing;

Team: hiking rucksack, first-aid kit, compass, means of lighting a fire, water bottle;

Equipment will be checked at the start point.

The Mountain Museum exists in Petroșani. Located in a generous space in the same building as the Mining Museum, it presents, in several sections, exhibits related to activity on the mountain: hiking, winter sports, the camera as the hiker's friend, documents, books, magazines, photographs, etc.

If you have an old mountain-related object (sports equipment, camping gear, photographic equipment, documents, a camera, etc.) and you no longer need it, you can donate it to our association, which is the custodian of the Mountain Museum in Petroșani.
