Trofeul Zimbrilor, 12th Edition,2–4 June 2023

Dear mountain-loving friends, we have the great pleasure of inviting you to take part in the first stage of the ȘTAFETA MUNȚILOR (the Mountain Relay) & FRTS National Sports Tourism Championship, organised by Zimbrul Carpatin Pitești and ATE Carpatia.

All tourism and ecology clubs and associations or sports associations in the country, whether or not affiliated to the Ștafeta Munților and FRTS National Sports Tourism Championship, may take part in this competition.

THERE IS NO PARTICIPATION FEE!

Trofeul Zimbrilor (the Bison Trophy) is included in the Grand Prix Romania Festival, which takes place on 1–5 June 2023 in Padiș and which also comprises other events such as: orienteering, mountain running (including a half-marathon event)! (more details on the website: www.grand-prix.ro)

Competition date: 2–4 June 2023

Venue: Padiș Resort, the area of the "La 5 căsuțe" guesthouse, Apuseni Mountains

Access routes:

- European road E79: DEVA – ORADEA

- after passing the town of ȘTEI (if you come from Deva) or before reaching the town of ȘTEI (if you come from ORADEA), take county road 763, which will take you on asphalt all the way to Padiș Resort.

Friday, 2 June:

8:00 – 22:00 Reception of participants

22:30 Technical briefing with all team captains

23:30 Close of registrations

24:00 Posting of the starting order / Lights out

Saturday, 3 June:

07:00 Start of the competition events

10:00 – 17:00 Fun events for those remaining in the camp

20:00 Surprise event

21:00 Posting of the results and resolution of appeals

22:00 Cultural event

Sunday, 4 June:

10:30 – Awards ceremony

12:00 – Cleaning of the camp and departure of the participants (or participation in the other events of the festival)

Competition categories:

Family: teams of 3 members, at least one adult and, compulsorily, at least one child aged 13 or under
Juniors: teams of 3 members, 14–20 years old, regardless of gender
Elite: teams of 3 members regardless of age and gender
Open: teams of 3 members regardless of age and gender
Women: teams of 3 members, all of whom must be female
Seniors: teams of 3 members, all aged over 35, regardless of gender
Veterans: teams of 3 members, all aged over 50, regardless of gender

Competition events:

MOUNTAIN RAID – a mountain route of medium difficulty, lasting a maximum of 6 hours, with 1,000 m of elevation gain. Participation is in teams of 3 members. Entry to this event is not possible without BOOTS/TRAINERS with a special grippy sole for trekking.

IMPORTANT: the Family category will have an age-appropriate route of a maximum of 4 hours.

Points awarded: 10,000 points. Penalties: 10 pts / 1 minute and 500 pts / 1 PFA (unmanned checkpoint)

ORIENTEERING – a speed event using a map. The whole team will enter this event.

IMPORTANT: Keeping the maps when leaving the course and communicating with the teams entering the event later is forbidden!

Points awarded: 5,000 points. Penalties: 1 pt / 1 second

THEORY TESTS – 15 multiple-choice questions about the competition area. All questions are of low difficulty and have ONLY ONE CORRECT ANSWER. You will find the questions on the website www.stafetamuntilor.ro.

IMPORTANT: the theory test will be taken before the other events, in the camp. Each team member will answer 5 questions.

Points awarded: 300 points. Penalties: 20 points / 1 wrong answer

CULTURAL – each club has 20 minutes to present an artistic and humorous performance in which it may reproduce any song with a mountain theme, a sketch and/or a poem. Since we are in the Apuseni, we will also have a specific theme: patriotic songs, so to obtain the maximum number of points you will also have to present at least one patriotic song!

Points awarded: 1,000 points. Penalties: depending on the marks received, in accordance with the SM (Ștafeta Munților) rules.

SURPRISE EVENT – if it is a surprise, then let it remain so until the moment it takes place.

6. CLIMBING – The event involves completing a rock route of medium difficulty, belayed, top-rope style, using only natural holds. The event is held in the categories: men, women and children. One member of the mountain route team takes part in this event, individually

The approximate length of the route is 100 m. Maximum time to complete the route – 5 minutes.

Prizes are awarded separately. The ranking is based on the height climbed and the time achieved.

At the Technical Briefing the organisers will present each event and its rules in detail. The organisers reserve the right to change the order of the events if this is required for objective reasons.

There IS mobile phone signal in the camp area!

IMPORTANT:

- For all compulsory events, the ȘTAFETA MUNȚILOR RULES, which you can find at www.stafetamuntilor.ro, must be strictly observed.

- Tents will be pitched in the area indicated and only under the guidance of the organisers.

- There will be a single fire pit in the camp. Mountain Gendarmerie patrols will be present in the area and will penalise any breach of the law. So please do not give them reasons to fine you!

- The camping FEE is 5 lei/person/competition. The fee will be collected by the organiser!

Compulsory equipment:

- individual: trekking boots/trainers, rain cape, whistle, torch, fire source

- team: compass, water bottle, first-aid kit and, very important: a camera or a phone with a camera.

To determine the winners of the Trophy, the scores of the best-placed teams in any 4 categories will be added together, cumulating the points they obtained in the events: Regularity, Orienteering and Theory Tests.
